The Red Top Series is held the first Sunday of every month between October and May.

  • Briefing is at 10am and the race commences around 10:30am
  • Trailer sailers and dinghy's are welcome to compete
  • $10 entrance fee applies

This race series is designed to create a special event for smaller Dinghy style boats (Laser, Sabre, etc).

  • This is now held mid-month on the Sunday after the Friday Hambuger night (please refer to the club Calendar). 
  • 10am briefing for a 10:30am start, then two or three short races finishing with a sausage sizzle.

  • This event is to encorage sailors of all ages to come and have fun, in the safety of a controlled sailing environment

Trophy 2

  • To be raced within the Red Top Regatta Sprint Series on the First Sunday of each month throughout the racing season (October to May) with no additional entry fee.
  • Individual races will be sailed under the control of the Clayton Bay Boat Club as directed by its Red Top Sprint Series Sailing Instructions. 
  • There will be six races with one discard. 
  • No handicaps; a simple first past the post race. 
  • Entry in one race is deemed to be entry in the series.

  • The Long Race Series is designed to take advantage of the stronger afternoon sea breezes and achieve a more challenging race for experienced sailors and crew.
  • Held at the CBBC on the Saturday prior to the Red Top Series (above) between October and May

This year the Rat Race Regatta will be held on 16th and 17th March 2019

Several years ago a couple of local Hartley 18 sailors had an impromptu race in the waters near Clayton Bay and Rat Island. The course was up the Goolwa Channel from Clayton, through Snug Cove and Dunn’s Lagoon, across Marshall’s Bight, behind Rat Island and back to Clayton. Next day, they did it again, but in the opposite direction. 


TheDSC 1668-2 regatta is open to all boats of the following general classes:

 Division 1 (Dinghy)
The Traditional Rat Race Course circumnavigating Goose, Goat and Rat Islands.For Dinghies (Wyndrel or other Hartley 18 based vessels permitted)
Motors are not required for this division. Only Class approved sails will be used.

Division 2 (Trailer Sailer)
Stony Point Course. For Trailer Sailers and must carry motor in operating position (raised).
Only Class approved sails will be used. Fleet will be split into Spinnaker & Non Spinnaker.

Division 3 (Junior Dinghy Classes)
From Clayton Bay, circumnavigating Goose and Goat Islands and return to Clayton Bay. For junior sailors and classes such as Optimist, Mirror, International Cadet etc.  Only class approved sails will be used.

Division 4 (Multihull off the beach and trailerable)
For OTB boats the Traditional Rat Race Course circumnavigating Goose, Goat and Rat Islands.
Trailerable boats will use the Stony Point Course with a possible extension depending on weather.

Course Directions (clockwise or anti-clockwise) will alternate on each day of the Regatta and will be advised at the Briefing.
